Prime Minister Narendra Modi has time and again expressed his desire to make a ‘New India’ which is not just prosperous and efficient but also fit and athletic. His efforts towards making the world realize the importance of Yoga has worked wonders and his efforts are the reason that the world has been observing ‘International Yoga Day’ on the 21st of June every year, for three years now.
PM Modi has always stressed on the importance of Yoga and sports activities and maintained that just like an economic revolution, there also has to be an athletic revolution in the country which results in India leaving behind other countries in activities of sports too.
He recently inaugurated the TransStadia Arena in Ahmedabad’s Maninagar on the 30th of June. It is one of the most advanced, integrated multi-purpose stadiums in the country and it has been developed via a public-private partnership between the government of Gujarat and TransStadia.
A massive event was held for the inauguration and remarkable sportspersons like Pullela Gopichand, Kidambi Srikanth, Gagan Narang, Sushil Kumar, Bhaichung Bhutia, Paralympian Deepa Malik, former India Kabaddi captain Anup Kumar and cricketers Irfan Pathan and Parthiv Patel were among the attendees.
PM Modi praised the contributions of all these athletes and stressed how these athletes are an inspiration to millions of Indians. He also had a ‘cherished’ moment with Badminton player Kidambi Srikanth where he lauded him for his recent achievements at the world stage.
He also praised Gujarat boy Parthiv Patel for his achievements at the national and international level. Also present was Indian football legend Bhaichung Bhutia and referring to Bhutia as his “saathi”, PM Modi said something that left the former footballer touched.
