The biggest terror attack on the pilgrims of Amarnath Yatra happened on July 10th and this cowardly act carried out by the terror organization, Lashkar-e-Toiba killed seven Amarnath pilgrims out of which six of them were women and left 32 others injured. This was one of the worst terror strikes in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Terrorists open fired on a bus with the pilgrims who were returning after visiting the holy shrine of Amarnath.
It was a disgraceful attack on the innocent pilgrims and the officials said the terrorists attacked an armoured car of the police first after which they attacked a police picket. When the police fired back, the attackers fled, firing indiscriminately. The deceased were mainly from the state of Gujarat.
Speaking to the media Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti said, “The terrorists have tainted the name of Kashmiris and Muslims. We hang our heads in shame. I have no words to condemn this, I hope those involved will be arrested and punished soon. We will not rest before they are punished”.
The country was shattered and unequivocally expressed the pain of the attack on pilgrims. From political leaders to renowned journalists, everyone condemned this barbaric act of cowardliness. But, this attack on Hindu pilgrims was not labeled with a religion, as it was done by the political pundits in the lynching of Junaid where the media highlighted he was killed for being a Muslim.
The liberals and the so-called pseudo-intellectuals reacted on the lynching of a juvenile by organizing #NotInMyName events and what not but this attack on the Amarnath pilgrims becomes a terror activity or a hate crime which has no relation to religion. But he loss of life and tragedy is certainly more important than the polarization that the media possesses.
The media and the famous media personnel so easily labeled the lynching of Junaid to religion and said he was only killed because he was a “Muslim”. But this horrific attack on the Amarnath pilgrims never saw any of these liberals saying they were killed for being “Hindus”.
Where are the #NotInMyName protesters now? or Where is AwardWapsi brigade now? If Junaid was targeted for being Muslim, why not say the Amarnath pilgrims were targeted for being Hindus? If the killers of Junaid were marked as Hindu, why not call the killers of the pilgrims as Muslim? These liberals will never highlight this attack in the name of religion or rather name it a ‘hate crime’. Such hypocrites!
Where the top leaders and other famous personalities condemned this attack on the pilgrims, novelist and writer Chetan Bhagat said something factually so right that will make these media personnel think twice before attacking a religion for lynching. Have a look at his tweet.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his sadness and said he was “pained beyond words on the dastardly attack on peaceful Amarnath Yatris”. In a more humane country like India, both Junaid Khan’s brutal killing and the horrific attack on Amarnath pilgrims should be met with similar outrage.
